The Chillicothe Cavaliers find themselves atop the FAC with a (6-1) record following a convincing 56-26 win over previous co-leader Washington Court House. The victory avenges the Cavs only league loss at Washington CH in December.
The first quarter was reminiscent of the first meeting with tough defense and the Blue Lion grind it out offense. The Cavs got two threes from senior Chris Postage in the second period and only allowed 5 of 16 from the floor for the Blue Lions to edge out to a 20-12 halftime lead.
Chillicothe stretched their lead in the third behind juniors Brandon Noel and Jayvon Maughmer who combined for 10 points and a comfortable 37-24 lead after three periods.
Noel owned the paint, blocking five shots and altering other Blue Lion drives. Washington CH couldn’t hit from the outside going a dismal 1-9 from the three point line on the night.
The Cavs exploded in the final quarter outscoring the Lions 17-2. Noel continued his strong inside play and finished with 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Chillicothe pulled away with tough defense taking away the Blue Lions drive penetration and 77% shooting in the second half.
The Cavs wound up 25-39 from the floor despite hitting only 3-11 threes. Postage hit all three trifectas for Chillicothe.
Court House was 10-37 from the field and after going 16-19 from the foul line the last time these teams met, hit only 5-13 from the charity stripe.
Noel was the only player in double figures with 17. Omar Porter led the Blue Lions with 9. Postage and Maughmer added 9 each for the Cavs.
The Cavs now lead Washington CH by one game and Jackson and Greenfield by two with three league games left. Hillsboro upset Jackson last night.
