The Chillicothe Jaycees annual Halloween Parade will take to the streets of downtown Chillicothe this weekend. The parade begins at 7:00 p.m. this Saturday and goes until around 8:00 p.m.
"It's a fun time of year hosted by the Chillicothe Jaycees and other local community organizations," said Chillicothe Mayor, Luke Feeney. "We're hoping for good weather. Downtown will be blocked off. We invite you to come down but just be aware as you're navigating traffic, beware that there will be a lot of children out and about. We just want people to be safe and enjoy the night."
Mayor Feeney says motorists can expect the downtown parade route to be closed off the traffic a few hours prior to the parade start, reopening shortly after the parade's conclusion.
He adds that the city's Halloween Night Trick-or-Treating may also see some streets blocked off for added safety. "There are some areas in town that we've had requests for," said Feeney. "Fairway in particular is a very busy part of town, and Story Place. We are looking at the possibility of blocking a street to make it safer for children. If we do decide to do that, we'll make sure to publish that information so people are notified."
And as always, Mayor Feeney suggests parents thoroughly check their child's candy haul from the night, to prevent any potential hidden dangers."Just keep an eye on what's going in the bag," said Feeney. It's always a good idea to inspect the candy before you dish it out to the kids."
Trick-or-Treat in Chillicothe takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Halloween Night, Wednesday, October 31st.
