Lady Lion Offense Pounds Out 10 Hits

The Fairfield Lady Lions (18-6, 10-3 SHAC) faced off against The Piketon Lady Redstreaks in the Southeast District Sectional Championship game played this afternoon at the Fairfield Baseball and Softball complex before a standing room only crowd.

The Fairfield Lady Lions may have played their most impressive game of the season blanking the Piketon Lady Redstreaks 6-0.

Kaiti White was dominating in the circle throwing her 11th shutout of the season, scattering 6 hits while striking out 11 Lady Redstreak batters as the Lady Lions played errorless softball. Only one Piketon baserunner would advance as far as second base. Meanwhile the Lady Lion offense collected 10 hits including 4 extra base hits. The Lady Lion base runners were aggressive on the base paths. The Sectional Championship was the Fairfield Lady Lions 17th consecutive Sectional Title and the 32nd overall.

The Fairfield Lady Lions were extremely focused and excited from the very first pitch and kept that energy and intensity throughout the game. The Fairfield Lady Lions would score 2 runs in the first inning, 2 runs in the third inning, add a run in the fifth inning, and another run in the sixth inning.

Kaiti White would strike out the side in the top of the first inning, as Kalesie Henderson would single to centerfield, but would be stranded at first base.

Lady Lion lead-off hitter, Lyndee Spargur ripped a single up the middle to lead off the bottom the first inning. Carli Reiber laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Spargur to second base. Kaiti White was safe on an infield hit and Hayleigh Lowe entered the game as a courtesy runner for White. Lowe then stole second base. Lauren Arnold then drove home both Spargur and Lowe with single to left centerfield.

Fairfield would show their power in the bottom of the third inning. Lyndee Spargur lead off the inning with a triple down the left field line. Carli Reiber followed with a double to the fence in left field to knock in Spargur. Two outs later, Lauren Arnold doubled to the gap in left centerfield to score Reiber.

The Lady Lions would add a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out Kaiti White doubled down the left field line, and Layla Hattan followed with a single to centerfield to score Hayleigh Lowe running for White. Lauren Arnold would follow with a single and Taylor Lawson laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring positions. But Cam Alexzander would pitch out the jam to strand both runners.

Fairfield would add to the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Megan Gragg drew a base on balls to lead off the inning and Madison Fox followed with a bunt single to put runners on first and second base. Gragg and Fox would advance to second and third base on a wild pitch. Gragg would cross the plate on a ground ball out off the bat of Carli Reiber.

Even though the Lady Redstreaks would put runners on base in every inning but the sixth inning, Kaiti White and the Lady Lions defense would strand all six runners and seal the victory and another Sectional title.
