Fairfield Lady Lions Shutout The North Adams Lady Devils 10-0 In The Southeast District Sectional Tournament Semi-Finals

Kaiti White Throw Two Hit Shutout And Hits Mammoth Home Run

The Fairfield Lady Lions (17-6, 10-3 SHAC) playing their best softball of the season over the last ten days took a big step forward in the search of their 32nd Sectional Tournament championship with a 10-0 win over the North Adams Lady Devils before a capacity crowd at the Fairfield Baseball and Softball complex. 

The Fairfield Lady Lions were again dominating combining great pitching and defense while pounding out 14 hits on the afternoon. Every Lady Lion hitter in the lineup had at least on hit. Kaiti White threw a two hit shutout, her 10th of the season, while striking out 9 batters in the five inning game. 

Kaiti White also hit a mammoth home run in the bottom of the first inning. It was her second career home run, a towering shot that bounced off the bus shelter in dead centerfield.

The North Adams Lady Devils showed up to play today loading the bases in the top of the first inning. Alania Eiterman singled, Carly Phillips was safe on an error, and Lexie Inskeep reached first on a dropped third strike to load the bases. But Fairfield pitching ace Kaiti White struckout the next batter to end the threat.

Fairfield came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning. Lyndee Spargur laid down a drag bunt and beat it out. Carli Reiber laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Spargur to second base. Kaiti White then blasted a mammoth home run off the bus shelter in dead centerfield to give her team an early 2-0 lead. Layla Hattan then doubled in the gap in left centerfield. Lauren Arnold then singled to left field to knock in Hattan. Taylor Lawson then singled to drive in Arnold to give her team a 4-0 lead after an inning of play.

The Lady Lions added 3 more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Carli Reiber singled to right field and Kaiti White followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Reiber to second base. Layla Hattan was safe on an error as Reiber took third base. Lauren Arnold was safe on an error. Reiber and Hattan would both score on wild pitches. Taylor Lawson walked and Molly Thackston singled to drive home Arnold.

Fairfield would add to their lead with single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. In the third inning, Madison Fox singled and would later score on an rbi single to right field by Carli Reiber. In the fourth inning, Megan Gragg tripled to centerfield to score Molly Thackston who reached base on a fielder’s choice.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning with a 9-0 lead, Lydee Spargur singled up the middle and then stole second base. Carli Reiber followed with a game ending single to right field to score Spargur.

Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Lyndee Spargur (2 for 4, 2 runs), Carli Reiber (3 for 3, sac bunt, 1 run. 2 rbi), Kaiti White (1 for 2, sac bunt, home run 1 run, 2 rbi), Layla Hattan ( 1 for 3, double, 2 runs), Lauren Arnold (2 for 2, 2 runs, 1 rbi), Taylor Lawson ( 1 for 2), Molly Thackston (1 for 3, 1 run, 1 rbi), Megan Gragg (2 for 3, 1 rbi), Madison Fox 1 for 3, 1 run).

Kaiti White (16-5) was the winning pitcher for Fairfield. Kaiti’s pitching line: 5 innings, 2 hits, no runs, no earned runs, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts. Macey Jarvis suffered the loss for North Adams: 4 innings, 14 hits, 10 runs, 6 earned runs, 2 walks, 1 strikeout.

The Fairfield Lady Lions advance to play the Piketon Lady Redstreaks in the Southeast District Sectional Championship game on Friday, May 11th at 5:00 PM at the Fairfield Baseball and Softball Complex. Piketon defeated Adena this afternoon 3-0.
