Ohio House Speaker Resigns

Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger has gone public with a statement indicating his resignation from both the Speaker's position, and his seat in the House, effective May first.  Rosenberger says he believes all of his actions as Speaker have been ethical and lawful.

An FBI investigation focused squarely on the Ohio House Speaker, prompting Cliff Rosenberger to hire legal counsel. It's been only a matter of days between word of the federal inquiry, and the House Speaker's resignation announcement. Rosenberger is a Clinton County Republican.

The resignation comes as the FBI questions his deals with an electoral group over a trip to Europe last summer.

Rosenberger points out the federal inquiry may take months or years to resolve. Speaker Pro Tem Kirk Schuring will assume responsibilities of the office of Speaker until the House of Representatives elects a permanent replacement.
