State Controlling Board OK's Medicaid Extension

A request to continue Medicaid expansion in Ohio has been approved by the State Controlling Board. The board voted unanimously Monday to release 264-million in state funding, qualifying it for another 638-million in federal dollars to continue.

The administration of Governor John Kasich had said that without funding approval, it would have to cut provider payments 16 percent beginning in January to keep the state budget in balance. Without the cuts, the agency projected it would run out of money by May and be unable to pay providers.

Three million Ohioans are on Medicaid.
