Second Street Brick Pavement Staying Through Winter

Monday evening, a Chillicothe Council committee agreed to try out the exposed brick on Second Street...for now.

The repaving operation halted in mid-stride a few weeks ago between Walnut and High streets will remain with the bricks exposed - with a few tweaks - until spring.

David Tatman's Engineering Committee agreed to hold off any possible repaving and see how the brick pavement weathers winter.

After advice from city engineering heads, crews will lower the utility covers and work on transitions to asphalt and curb cuts, and other details - at costs that are far less than what was budgeted for repaving.

Opinions differed on whether the bricks damaged by the asphalt grinder needed sealing, so that will be held off.

Most neighbors in the audience seemed satisfied.
