Finding cures for major diseases is something one lawmaker at the statehouse wants to see more of as he introduces a new bill for funding. Cures for cancer, diabetes, depression and other widely-diagnosed diseases.
That's what State Rep Jim Butler, a Dayton-area Republican, says is likely to happen if Ohio joins other states in a compact. That's why he wants the government to sweeten the pot with funding for every researcher and venture capitalist to dig in.
Butler says his idea would save billions in health care costs in the long run, and provide prize money while placing the patents on those specific new drugs in the public domain.
