US 23 Major Crime Task Force Tackles Drug Epidemic

With a significant drug issue in southern Ohio, you might have heard of the US 23 Major Crimes Task Force.

"The task force is a grant-funded organization that gives us money for buys and for the operation expenditures of the task force," said Ross County Sheriff George Lavender.

He said those undercover drug buys lead to drug arrests with the region.

"Drugs are not just in Ross County; they're going across county lines, they're going across state lines, they're coming in on major highways," said Sheriff Lavender, "and we have to have that grouping of agencies that can fight it not only here but in Highland County, Fayette County, Pickaway County, Pike County."

The collaboration is key it tackling the drug epidemic, he said.

"Together, we're stronger."
