Ross County OVI Checkpoint on Western Avenue Saturday Night

An OVI checkpoint will be held 7 to 9pm on US 50 / Western Avenue at Polk Hollow Road on the west side of Chillicothe, announced the Highway Patrol at 8:35 am.

They report such OVI checkpoints are planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. Funded by federal grant funds, the checkpoint will be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes.

They say if you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.

Based on provisional data, there were 384 OVI-related fatal crashes in which people were killed last year in Ohio.

Lt. T. J. Karwatske, Commander of the Chillicothe Post, said “State troopers make an average of 19,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”
