Coach Doug Pryor’s Chillicothe Cavaliers have been leaning heavy on their defense so far this season, but couldn’t hold down Centennial’s athletes Friday and gave up 48 points to the Stars, in a 48-15 set-back. Centennial has now scored 46, 50, and 48 points the last three weeks.

Chillicothe has been looking for offensive consistency and actually got it going behind quarterback Christian Benson for three quarters. The Cavs netted 300 total yards on offense and trailed only 21-15 with 20 seconds remaining in the first half.

Chillicothe opened the game with a nice 79 yard drive and scored on a seven yard scamper by Sophomore Hunter Thomas. Thomas ran in a 2 point conversion and it was quickly 8-0 Cavaliers.

Centennial answered with a 51 yard drive to tie things up 8-8 late in the first period. Two big defensive plays then seemed to turn the tide the Stars’ way. Luchene Davis picked off a Benson pass and returned it 20 yards for a score and a Centennial lead 14-8. The Stars then forced a three and out and blocked the Cavs punt taking over at the Chillicothe 30.

A Syquee Womack run quickly made it 21-8 Centennial. The Cavaliers answered again when Benson broke loose for a 33 yard touchdown run to bring the score to 21-15.

Just as quick as the Cavs were back in it, the Stars countered with a 67 yard drive to score with just 18 seconds left in the half. A huge 45 yard pass set up the big touchdown inside the Cavs 10.

Centennial opened the second half with a 65 yard, time consuming drive to go up 35-15 and pretty well sealed the deal over the Cavs.

Benson passed for a season high 181 yards and ran for a score. Thomas rushed for 60 yards as the Cavs did manage a season high 300 yards. Chillicothe missed a field goal and had a touchdown pass nullified by penalty in the third quarter.

Centennial only dressed 25 players but seemed to interchange backs, receivers, and quarterback to gain 345 offensive yards for the game. Luchene Davis ran for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Stars.

The Cavaliers fall to (1-3) on the year and host Logan in a special Thursday Night Lights game.
