Ruth Bader Ginsburg Becomes First Woman To Lie In State At U.S. Capitol

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg became the first woman and first Jewish person to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol on Friday (September 25). Her flag-draped casket arrived around 9:30 a.m. and was placed atop the Lincoln catafalque, an honor granted to just a handful of individuals.

Her casket will leave the Capitol Building around 12:30 p.m. following a private service for lawmakers and Ginsburg's family and close friends.

She will be buried next week at Arlington National Cemetery during a private service for her family and friends.

Ginsburg laid in repose for two days at the Supreme Court, where thousands of people gathered to pay their respects.

Ginsburg died last week at the age of 87 from complications pancreatic cancer.
