Unioto and Southeastern Fall from Girls Tourney Action

The final two SVC girls basketball teams standing in the post-season fell from the tournament trail on Thursday. Unioto slow start came back to haunt them in a 53-46 set-back to Vinton County in the Girls Division 2 District Semi, while Southeastern fell to Oak Hill 58-44 in Division 3 action.

VINTON COUNTY 53, UNIOTO 46

The Lady Vikings came roaring out of the starting gate, taking a 9-2 lead then 9-4 at the end of the first quarter. That lead grew to its largest margin at 22-6, before the Lady Shermans cut that to 27-16 at halftime. Unioto pulled to within 29-28 and 31-30 late in the third quarter, but could never get the lead as Vinton County took a 36-30 advantage into the third period and went on for the 53-46 win thanks to big free throws down the stretch.

The Lady Vikings physical play threw Unioto off their game with numerous fouls and 20 turnovers for Vinton County and 18 for Unioto.

The Lady Shermans Unioto shot 16/45 from the field- including 4/12 from behind the arc for 36% and added 10/15 at the foul line. Vinton County was 13/34 from the field- including 5/12 from the arc for 38%, but the charity stripe is where they cashed-in at 22/31. The rebounding edge was Unioto's at 26-23.

(19-5) Vinton County had two players in double figures with Tegan Bartoe leading the way with 14 points and Cameron Zinn with 11 points. Josie Ousley had 9 while Rylee Ousley and Morgan Bently each had 8 points. Bently also had 10 rebounds.

(19-5) Unioto got 14 points and 12 rebounds from Avery Miller, with Emily Coleman and Amber Cottrill pitching-in 12 and 10 points respectively. Coleman, Hallie Pinkerton and Cree Stulley fouled out for Unioto.

Vinton County now advances to play state top ranked Circleville, who pulled away late for a 47-38 win over arch-rival Logan Elm.

OAK HILL 58, SOUTHEASTERN 44

The Lady Panthers saw their tournament run end in Jackson, falling to the Lady Oaks. Caitlyn Brisker led Oak Hill with 22 points, with Olivia Clarkson and Brooke Howard adding 12 each. Southeastern was led by macie Graves' 15 points and Skylar Hice finished with 9.

The game was played fairly even with it 14-14 after one quarter and Oak Hill 27-25 at halftime. It was the third period where Oak Hill pulled away starting on a 8-0 run, and held a 44-34 advantage after three quarters.
