Zane Trace Beats Unioto in Low Scoring Battle


Round two of Scioto Valley Conference boys basketball opened with first place Zane Trace holding home-court advantage with a win over rival Unioto, 46-35.


Both teams traded leads in the first quarter before the Shermans took a 15-8 lead, early in the second period. From there, the Pioneers outscored Unioto 15-2 to take a 23-17 lead at halftime. ZT extended their lead to the widest margin of 15 for the second time in the contest at 32-17, then held a 36-23 lead after three.


Unioto managed to cut the deficit to 33-25 with about two minutes to play in the game, but the Pioneers put the contest away at the foul line for the 11 point win.


Zane Trace was led by Cam Evans' 17 points, followed by Colby Swain with 10. Triton Davidson had 9 points/6 rebounds and Nick Nesser with 5 points/5 rebounds/4 blocks. Luke Johnson added 5 points/7 boards.


Unioto's Cameron Debord scored 12 points/6 rebounds and Isaac Little pumped in 10 points. Cade McKee had 9, with Jeremy Lambert and Carson Debord each with two.


The Pioneers shot 16/35 from the field for 46%- including 4/12 from the arc. They added 10/16 at the foul line. Unioto was 12/34 for 35%- including 6/21 from the arc and went 5/10 from the charity stripe.


Unioto edged ZT on the glass for a 21-20 rebound advantage with the Shermans committing 10 turnovers and Zane Trace 6.


Zane Trace improves to (8-0/11-2) and Unioto drops to (4-4/6-6).
