Like last Friday, Chillicothe escaped with a 46-41 victory in Greenfield just a week later.

Washington CH took the Cavaliers (11-5/7-0) down to the wire last weekend, and Friday had their hands full with the McClain Tigers.

Chillicothe used an 11-2 run for a 9-point margin in the 4th to creating the separation necessary to remain undefeated in the Frontier Athletic Conference. McClain trailed 41-34 with 1:25 remaining, but Kobe Penwell and Garrision Banks dropped in a pair of three’s to cut the margin to 43-40 but could get no closer.

“A lot of credit to them (McClain)” said Cavs Coach Eric Huffer. “I thought they killed us on 50-50 balls and as a coach it’s just unacceptable.” Huffer said he felt his Cavaliers had a great week of practice, but didn’t show that Friday. “I thought they did a good job of being patient on offense, I thought our pressure was good and forced them into some tough shots.

Jayvon Maughmer put together a string of 11 consecutive points to put Chillicothe ahead 11-3 but the Tigers rallied to pull within 14-11 after the opening period.

The Cavs went into the intermission with a 20-18 lead as Greenfield (2-12/0-7) began to control the game’s tempo.

Turnovers (5) stymied Chillicothe’s offense in the third while McClain’s Devin Carter positioned himself on the low block and dropped in 10 of his game leading 15 points. Chillicothe maintained a 29-28 lead heading into the closing period. McClain had 16 turnovers to Chillicothe's 13.

The Cavs shot 50% from the field and both teams knocked down five three-pointers each. Chillicothe's Jayvon Maughmer paced the Cavs with 11 points, all in the first period while Branden Maughmer and Brandon Noel each scored 10 points. McCLain was lead by Devin Cater with 15 points (13 in the second half) and Kobe Penwell with 14.

Both FAC schools have makeup games Saturday. The Cavaliers host Miami Trace and McClain is home with Jackson.
