In her post game interview, Cavs senior Shawnee Smith easily agreed that it was good to “get her 1,000th carrer point over with.” “We have lost way too many games early and we [Cavs) needed to have a solid win.”
Chillicothe certainly was solid with a 54-38 win over the McClain Tigers. The Smith sisters led the way with Shawnee’s 16 and sophomore Shawnice’s 18 points. The sister duo combined for 20 of the Lady Cavs 30 first half points as the Chillicothe went out to a 30-18 intermission lead.
Coach Jeremy Beverly felt one of the keys was the transition offense. The Cavs got it out and going early as their 16-5 first quarter really was the big difference in the game. The Lady Cavs were also effective at times getting mismatches on post ups with the Smiths inside.
McClain, who is still looking for their first win, had a solid second quarter and got a big night from freshman Kyla Burchett who scored a team high 18 points.
Shawnee reached the 1,000 point club on a corner trey in the third quarter. The game was stopped as Smith was honored at half court. The Cavs victory was their first in the new FAC as they now stand (1-2) and (2-4) overall.
McClain falls to (0-3) in league play and (0-5) overall.
Also scoring for the Lady Cavs were Hayden Price with 6, Melia Johnson and Julia Hall with 5 each, and freshman Olivia Johnson with 4.
