Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Pickaway County US 23 Crash Saturday Night

One person was killed and two others were injured as the result of a wrong-way crash in Pickaway County.

The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash took place in the southbound lanes of US 23 near Radcliffe Road late Saturday evening.

Sheriff Matthew Hafey said the crash took place shortly before 11:30 p.m. when a northbound pickup truck operated by 66-year-old Samuel G. Browning of Jackson, in the southbound lanes of US 23 collided with a southbound Kia operated by Tisha L. Nida, 42, of Thurman.

Tisha Nida was pronounced deceased at the scene. Samuel Browning was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with unspecified injuries. An unnamed passenger in Browning’s pickup was taken to Adena Regional in Chillicothe.

This crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey on January 28, 2023 at 11:24 PM the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call of a wrong way driver on US Route 23 south of Tarlton Road. The report stated the wrong way driver was southbound in the northbound lane.

Deputies along with Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol were dispatched to the area. At 11:25 PM we received a call that the wrong way driver crashed into another vehicle. Deputies arrived on scene at 11:26 PM. The collision occurred in the area of US Route 23 in the area of Radcliffe Road, in the northbound lanes.

In the investigation of the crash Deputies learned that 66-year-old Samuel G. Browning from Jackson, Ohio was driving his 2004 red Dodge Ram northbound in the southbound lanes. The red Dodge collided with a 2019 gray Kia that was driven by 42-year-old Tisha L. Nida from Thurman, Ohio.

As a result of the injuries from the crash Tisha Nida was pronounced dead at the scene. Samuel Browning was flown to Grant Medical Center by Air Evac and the passenger in his vehicle was taken to Adena Regional Medical Center by Pickaway Township EMS, for the injuries they suffered in the crash.
