Meantime, the late Senator John McCain will also received the distinguished award. He was the Republican nominee for President in 2008.

Other names being honored include Sandra Lindsay, the first American to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Soccer star Megan Rapinoe, former Senator Alan Simpson, the late AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, and actor Denzel Washington will get the Presidential Medal of Freedom as well.
