The Weeknd Releases Somber Juice WRLD Collaboration 'Smile'

The Weeknd and Juice WRLD’s new joint has arrived.

The Canadian singer-songwriter linked up with the late Chicago rapper on a bittersweet collaboration titled “Smile.” The song arrived accompanied by a lyric video that features an artist curating murals of Juice and Weeknd in real-time.

Opening the somber record is Juice, whose verses detail the departed musician’s pensive feelings about wanting to express his love for his sweetheart, even when they’re no longer together.

“I'd do anything in my power to see you just smile/ I want you to prosper and come proper/ Even if that means I ain't by your side,” Juice sings over a trap beat before he admits he’s saddened that he’s unable to satisfy his beloved.

The Weeknd carries a similar sentiment on the track’s second verse as he croons, “I just wanna see you smile/Don’t cry/Even though it means I gotta let you go. … When our skin is touching, I need drugs to love you/ You want so much more from me, but I can only f—k you.”

The After Hours star officially confirmed “Smile” earlier this week, and the song has been a long time coming as the duo had supposedly been cooking the project up last year, with Juice teasing in September 2019, “Me and The Weeknd would make a diamond record…” Sadly, as fans know, Juice died months later, in December 2019, of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 21.

The new collaboration marks the first posthumous project between the two performers. Juice’s first posthumous record, Legends Never Die, released to high acclaim this July, earning one of the biggest releases of the year and debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
