Four High School Basketball Players Suspended For Attacking Their Coach

Four junior varsity basketball players from Malcolm X Shabazz High School in Newark, New Jersey, have been suspended after they attacked their head coach. The attack occurred last week after the team had returned from a game against another school.

According to the WABC, the teenagers were picking on another student on the bus, and the coach told them to stop. As the students got off the bus, they jumped their coach and started beating him down in front of the school. The coach refused medical attention, and authorities are investigating the incident.

"I spoke to the superintendent, principal, coaches, and team," said Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. "The actions of these students will not be tolerated, and they don't represent the majority of the school. The school and team have many great kids who go on to college and do great things, and we're proud of them.

A video of the attack went viral, and the officials said the students will be face criminal charges for their actions.

"Our detectives are investigating this incident to identify and to appropriately charge those individuals involved," Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. "Because high school students are typically juveniles, the names of the suspects will not be released. But those found to have participated in this senseless act of violence will face criminal charges."
