Non-Profit Veterans Group To Host Event to Help Homeless Vets

A local non-profit veteran's organization is looking to help the homeless of our community at the end this month with an event aimed at helping them get back on their feet, and off the street.

.

Jeremy Parkins is with Dress Right Dress, and is promoting the November 30th event- "End Homelessness for the Holidays".

.

"We are pooling community resources within a central location for the homeless and the needy to come in and establish resources to help with homelessness," said Jeremy Parkins with Dress Right Dress. "If they need help with mortgage and rent, utilites, employment, medical, etc. We are also going to provide them a sack lunch, as well as hats, gloves and coats."

.

The theme End Homelessness for the Holidays is similar to the old biblical proverb about giving a man a fish, versus teaching a man how to fish.

.

"It's not an event to help the homeless for one day," said Parkins. "Our event is geared toward a means to an end."

.

The event will offer homeless individuals help from local community providers such as Lutheran Social Services, the Chillicothe VA and others. Jeremy says they're seeking more service providers to take part, and generate some community donations ahead of the November 30th event.

.

"What we need help with is additional community resources," said Parkins. "If you're a community provider that provides help with utilities or food, we're asking you to get ahold of us. We are also looking for donations of clothing and food to pass out for the homeless coming through."

.

If you'd like to make a donation to End Homelessness for the Holidays event, Jeremey says you contact Dress Right Dress at 740-656-2701.

.

End Homelessness for the Holidays will take place again on November 30th. It'll run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 570 Douglas Avenue in Chillicothe.
