Frankfort Man Indicted For Aggravated Drug Possession

32-year-old Jacob T. Steel of South Main Street in Frankfort, was charged with a single third-degree felony count of aggravated possession as the result of a traffic stop from February 13th of this year.

.

In that incident, an office with the Chillicothe Police Department was on patrol when he observed a suspicious vehicle parked on the lot of a local gas station. A check of the plates revealed the vehicle to have been reported stolen out of Pike County.

.

A traffic stop was conducted and a subsequent search of the driver, Mr. Steel, revealed two plastic baggies containing what appeared a crystal-like substance in one of his front pants pockets. A third baggy containing the same substance was also located inside of a compartment located near the vehicle’s dash board.

.

Mr. Steel was taken into custody for driving the stolen vehicle, but was not indicted for the theft of the vehicle because detectives believe it was reasonable that he did not know the vehicle was stolen.

.

The suspected drugs found on Mr. Steel’s person and inside the vehicle, would later test positive as a total of 10.1 grams of methamphetamine.

.

Mr. Steel was originally indicted by the Ross County Grand Jury during its session on Friday, July 26th, but the case was sealed until Mr. Steel could be picked up and charged on the felony indictment.

.

If convicted, Mr. Steel could receive a sentence of up to 36 months in prison and a fine of $10,000.
