Chillicothe Hopes to Fund Improvements Around Baseball Diamond 1

Monday evening, a Chillicothe Council committee heard about proposed improvements in Yoctangee Park. Parks & Recreation Director Bill Bonner showed a map of the park around Baseball Diamond 1, or Pete Wright Field.

.

The main change will be moving the road to the other side of the parking lot, which he says will improve greatly safety. Then the parking will be paved to make it handicap accessible.

.

A long sidewalk will be added around the baseball field, from the armory to beyond the tennis courts, which will also add to handicap accessibility.

.

Greenspace will be where the road was. Then landscaping will be added to make the area match the other aesthetic improvements in the park.

.

Bonner says he needs a nod of approval from council as he hopes to get a grant this summer to leverage about a $2,500,000 project for only $40,000 from the city.

.

He says if it's funded, most of the work will be done next year, with landscaping continuing into 2021.
