Chillicothe Council Assisting Improvement of Local 2-1-1 Information System

Monday evening, Chillicothe Council approved making a change and helping to fund the local resource center.

Kim Jones & Kelli Yeager-Nelson are co-chairs of the coalition " Partners for a Healthier Ross County ." They have been focusing on the local 2-1-1 system, a call center that handles texting, phone calls, chatting, and internet questions for local resources and emergency services in Ross County.

They said their assessment showed the system was under-utilized, so by April, it will be switched over to a highly praised United Way call center in Cleveland - but that will allow broader assistance.

"2-1-1 Greater Cleveland" is a United Way agency that they say will be able to answer "when will my trash get picked up" as well as "where is the nearest tornado shelter." They will either have the information, or connect the questioner to a local agency.

The city will give $5,000 each of the next three years towards the new 2-1-1.

Mayor Luke Feeney noted that, coincidentally, the day was...2-1-1.
