Inspector General Investigating Comey Over Handling Of Classified Memos

Former FBI Director James Comey is being investigated by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz over his handling of classified material he wrote down while documenting his interactions with President Donald Trump. Horowitz confirmed the investigation while he was testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley asked Horowitz whether the FBI was investigating the memos, which Comey admitted to writing and leaking to press.

“We received a referral on that from the FBI, we are handling that referral and we will issue a report when the matter is complete and consistent with the law and rules," Horowitz replied.

Comey admitted that he had been questioned by the Inspector General over the memos, but downplayed the issue as "frivolous."
