The Chillicothe Boy's Volleyball team concluded their second season on Thursday night in Centerville after a loss to the Archbishop Alter Knights in the Regional Semi-Final 3-0 (25-8, 25-3, 25-12).
Alter will now face Bishop Fenwick on Saturday in the Regional Final at 4:00 p.m. in Centerville, and hope to defend their state championship on June 2nd and 3rd at Capital University.
The Knights established their dominance early in the match from the service line and with a balanced attack led by Player of the Year Andrew Rose.
“We knew this was going to be a tough match for us,” said coach Andrew Vitatoe. “But these are the matches that we need to play if we want to grow and advance the program. Alter has won 6 state championships since 2011, so it was a good experience for our guys to see that level of play across the net. We’ve had a really great season, the program has grown, we’ve had more success than last year, and most importantly these guys love the game of volleyball and love this team.”
The Cavs will begin their 2019 campaign with tryouts the first week in March and matches starting approximately two weeks later. Chillicothe is expecting a large incoming freshman class and is hoping to help other area or league schools establish a boys volleyball program.
“It’s a great team sport, that supports the training goals of other sports with minimal risk of injury, and it is one of the cheapest sports you can add to your school because you probably have all of the equipment from the girls side already.”
