Chillicothe City Schools Closing Tuesday in Memoriam

In a news release Sunday morning, Superintendent Jon Saxton stated that the Chillicothe City School District will be closed for students on Tuesday, January 30.

This is to allow students, staff, and community members to join in the celebration of life for Carmalitta Windon, a Physical Education Teacher at Mt. Logan and Tiffin Elementary Schools.

Mrs. Windon was tragically killed in an automobile accident on Wednesday, January 24.

Visitors may call on family members on Monday, January 29 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Open Door Fellowship Church. The Celebration of Life will be held at Open Door on Tuesday, January 30 at 1:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, Daycare services will be provided to students at Mt. Logan and Tiffin during normal school hours for families in need of daycare since students are not in normal session. There will be no cost to families for the daycare which will be provided by CCSD. Latchkey will remain open at Allen as it normally does on “snow days.”

More information will be sent home with students Monday.

Staff will be expected to report for a special In-Service training provided by Julie Oates of the Child Protection Center on “Trauma Informed Care” during the morning hours Tuesday which will be helpful for staff to be responsive to the needs of students who experience loss and other traumatic events.

In lieu of flowers, a “Go Fund Me” page has been established to help the Windon family. Mrs. Windon’s husband Lloyd and son Titus survive.
