One person died in a single-vehicle crash on US 35 in Jackson, Friday afternoon. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a motorist was eastbound in a pick-up truck on US 35 near Bronx Corner Road at 2:40 p.m. when the driver swerved to avoid hitting the back of another car, drove into the grass median, and over-corrected. Authorities say the truck rolled multiple times and ended up partially in the left lane of US 35.
Authorities say the occupants, William Copeland, 55, and Craig Burgess, 54, both of Kentucky, were ejected.
The Highway Patrol confirmed Copeland was pronounced dead at Holzer Medical Center, while Burgess was flown to Grant Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say neither Copeland nor Burgess were wearing seat belts and alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
