Wart Covered Deer Showing Up in Ohio

Wart covered deer are showing up throughout Ohio.

The growths, known as fibroma, can be the size of a dime or get as big as a tennis ball and they can form independently or in patches on deer from head to tail.

ODNR officials say the condition is mostly superficial and does not affect the meat of the deer. They do ask hunters though to look carefully over a deer for any infected warts, which can damage the meat.

The public is asked to report sightings of deer with the condition to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
