Husband Dies, Wife Lives in US 35 Crash

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported a two-vehicle fatal crash on US 35 east of County Road 550 in Ross County at about 9am Saturday.

45-year-old Robert L. Kisor of Wellston was northbound in a 2006 Kenworth dump truck on US 35 when it was struck in the rear by a 2003 Ford Windstar driven by 69-year-old Richard L. Grooms, with passenger 69-year-old Rickie L. Grooms, both of Piketon. 

The Grooms were extricated with the “Jaws of Life” by Union Township Fire Department.  Mr. Grooms was pronounced dead at the scene by Ross County Corone, Dr. John Gabis.  Mrs. Grooms was flown to OSU Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Kisor’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and he did not sustain any injuries.

The westbound lanes of US 35 were closed for about three hours.

The Union Township Fire Department/EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Ross County Sheriff’s Office all assisted at the scene.
