Chillicothe's Robbie Vest is the latest Cavalier athlete to sign a national letter of intent. Vest will bowl for the University of Pikeville in Kentucky.

The Cavalier senior was honored as the South Central Ohio Conference Player of the Year, the first Chillicothe Bowler to receive the honor. He was in junior high school when the Cavs Bowling program became recognized by the Ohio high School Athletic Association.

In a couple of years, he made the SCOC All-Freshmen Team and became a staple All-Conference player his final three seasons.

When asked about what the ride has been like, Vest said “I feel so honored to be the first one to set a building block for what’s to come for people around here.”

During Vest’s career, he helped pave the way for an undefeated season in 2010-11, three consecutive conference championships, five different high school tournament victories and a handful of Top 4 finishes, including taking 3rd place in the State Kick-off Tournament last

Vest also became the first Cavalier to reach the State Tournament during the 2011-12 season.

He says it wasn’t a lock that he was going to UPike, which has a Men’s teamed ranked 8th in the NAIA Coaches Poll. Their Women’s team is ranked 4th nationally.

“I think I was choosing between five at one point, when I found out I could get some scholarship money for bowling from the University of Pikeville, I made up my mind because they had what I wanted (Bowling and Computer Science) that’s where I was gonna go…”

Among his future plans Vest hopes to work with either Microsoft or Apple and build computers, “… with hopes of building my own third company at some point.”

Vest carried an SCOC career average of 213 and has had Chillicothe’s high scoring game the last two seasons.

While the computer route may be where his vocational pathway leads, but who knows, Vest may turn pro someday and have Microsoft or Apple as a sponsor on the PBA circuit… or maybe his own company.
