Mischal Signs to Play Baseball for Wilmington

Jalen Mischal made a commitment to play baseball for Wilmington College this week.

The catcher/first baseman said he decided midway through his high school days he wanted to concentrate on playing collegiate baseball. He was introduced to Wilmington by football coach Ron Hinton, a Wilmington alumnus.

Mischal says of Wilmington, “They’re athletic training program is one of the best in the country” and that’s led Mischal to one day become a certified athletic trainer, something he became interested in  during his Cavalier playing days thanks to Cavs trainer Andrea Anderson.

“Being an athlete, you’re always seeing what’s going on… and I like to help people.” Mischal says he’s not taped ankles just yet, but did admit “When she’s not there, I do wrap ice on people after practice.”

Mischal and his baseball teammates are preparing for the 2014 baseball season, which officially begins with a doubleheader at Unioto March 29th.

The Cavs will be led by former Cavalier and new head coach Todd Seymour. Seymour replaces his former coach Marty Dunn who retired after the 2013 season.

The Quakers have a similar circumstance with a new coach this year, too. Dan Cleaver takes the reins from Tony Haley, who retired last season after 13 years as head coach.
