Chillicothe linebacker Tyler Kelley is headed to play football at Springfield’s, Wittenberg University.
“Being one of many recruits, you’re thinkng ‘I might be the lousy one out of the bunch’ Said Kelley. But then he decided to see his visit through “I said try to be the best person here and ask questions. I wanted to be part of it.”
The hard work paid off Kelley was a third Team All-Ohioan, All-Southeast District and All-SCOL Linebacker in 2013.
Those who know Kelley think he’ll fit in well as a Tiger. His work ethic is second to none and trains tirelessly while still finding time to work as a farmhand on Coach Ron Hinton’s farm. 2003 Chillicothe graduate Ross Morrow who played for Coach Joe Fincham at Wittenberg told wbex.com a hard working farmhand is “Fincham’s type” hard nosed, tough and not afraid to work.
The Tigers road a string of 10 straight wins before Mount Union ended their season in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs last November.
“Growing up with a whole bunch of responsibilities” said Kelley, “and having that ethic to do better for yourself, you just keep at it, your mind set on goals and you’re fine.”
Kelley plans to crack the books on Environmental Studies at Wittenberg. “Hopefully I can work my way into a Pre-Engineer degree… I like being a part of farm life… the curse of being a farmer kinda deal.”
He’s roped running backs and planted quarterbacks for three seasons as a Cavalier, now he’ll have that opportunity as a Tiger.
