The Chillicothe Athletic Department acted quickly to fill the vacancy created by Shawn Blue’s resignation from the Girls Basketball head coaching position, hiring Patrick Beard as his replacement.
Beard served as part of the Chillicothe Boys basketball coaching staff under then head coach Gary Kellough. The 1993 Zane Trace graduate played for Coach K and then joined the CHS staff during the Cavs state title run.
Beard says it’s a challenge he’s ready to embrace “(I’m) looking forward on building what Coach Blue has done over the past four years… taking it to the next level, wanting to instill hard work, dedication and passion for the game into the young ladies.”
2013-14 will be Beard’s first year as a head coach.
That will also be the case for Chelsey Jones as the new Volleyball coach for the upcoming fall season. Jones, who was an assistant for Bret Wrightsel last season, served as the JV head coach for Shawn Blue in the basketball program. Wrightsel handed in his resignation in November following Chillicothe’s SEOAL championship season.
Jones says Wrightsel is serving as her mentor “Being around him last year, I kinda got use to his coaching style and a sense of what he’s all about… I’m excited to follow in his steps.”
Coaching teenagers is nothing new to Jones “I currently coach Spiketown Club Volleyball (17 year olds) right now and I think the ages I’ve coached in the past will help me build a strong program because I know how each level needs to be coached.”
Like Beard, Jones was a recognized Scioto Valley Conference athlete during her high school days, (as Chelsey Eblin) at Huntington.
