The Cavs Boys Basketball team is making a third consecutive trip to the Convo after notching their sixth Sectional Championship in eight tries at Southeastern High School Friday.

Chillicothe beat Washington CH 56-43, sweeping their season series with the Blue Lions. The Cavs won their first meeting 57-38.

Zach Johnson dropped in 25 points and Nolan Taylor had 16 as the Cavs built a ten point lead in the third quarter at 35-25.

Washington pulled back to a 35-32 score at the end of the period, but Tommy Bolte nailed a three-pointer and Adam Bixler had a put back to extend the Cavs’ lead to 40-32 in the early minutes of the final period.

Neither team shot particularly well (WCH 33%, Cavs 47%) but the Chillicothe boys helped themselves hitting 7-of-9 field goals in the fourth quarter to cement their lead.

Derek Shaw had 15 points to lead the Blue Lions and Garrett Phipps added 10.

The Cavs (8-15) will face Athens (18-3) in the District Semi-final Thursday at Ohio University.


Also advancing to the District for the first time since joining Division II, the Unioto Shermans who earned a 51-36 victory over Greenfield McClain. The Shermans return to the Convo for the first time since 2001.

Unioto increased their 11-7 lead after the first 8-minutes to 22-10 by halftime. Chase Detillion paced the Sherman attack with 18-points.

Trailing 33-17 heading into the fourth quarter, the Tigers could only manage to cut the Unioto lead to 35-25 and could get no closer.

The Shermans avenged a 50-45 loss to McClain in January and will face either Warren or New Lexington at Ohio University on March 1st. The Warriors and Panthers play Saturday night at Logan High School.
