Survivorship Training and Rehab (STAR) is a program developed by Oncology Rehab Partners.
For the last few months, Adena Rehab Caregivers have been learning about the program which is designed to help survivors return to a better quality of life following treatment.
Adena Cancer Center Medical Director, Jeffrey VanDeusen says a high percentage of oncology patients could benefit from therapy. Research has shown that challenging activity levels and addressing the needs of the whole individual is imperative.
Karen Jenkins, Director of Rehab and Radiology for Adena agrees and says STAR is only available in five Ohio areas outside of the Scioto Valley, Chardon, Lima, Sandusky, Sylvania and Toledo which adds to the uniqueness of the service to Southern Ohio.
Laura Adams, Manager of Rehab says 50 specially trained individuals for Rehab and Oncology collaborated on the training and each is excited to get started offering STAR as a service to survivors at the end of July.
