Extension of Ross County’s Trail to Chillicothe’s Far West End Celebrated

A paved cycling and walking trail now connects the Coppel Athletic Complex at the western edge of Chillicothe, with the Paint Creek Recreational Trail…which then connects to the northwest and Scioto edge of Chillicothe, as well as Frankfort and Washington Court House.

The connector has actually been paved for a few months, but a crossing signal at US 50 and Veterans Parkway had not been installed until recently. The ribbon-cutting – or rather ribbon-breaking – by a cyclist was Friday. See more on the event in the below videos.

The next major event for the multi-park park district is a sneak peak of a new preserve near the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center. The public walk at Herron Downs Fen will be 11am April 6th.

Devon Atkinson, trail maintenance supervisor for the park district, says there is no timeline yet for fully opening Herron Downs to the public since they are still gathering partners for its development…but they hope it will be open this fall. Hear him in the below video interview.

The Ross County Park District has a website and Facebook page.
