Ross County Land Bank Looking for More Properties to Clean Up

The local land bank continues to directly or indirectly get dilapidated buildings cleaned up…and is looking for more.

In their Monday meeting, they discussed an upcoming state grant that like last year can provide $500,000 to do that. So, the land bank is seeking addresses of abandoned and blighted buildings to spend the grant on.

The Ross County Land Reutilization Corporation, a public commission best known as the Chillicothe or Ross County land bank, works towards demolishing or renovating vacant and blighted buildings.

The head of the land bank, Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney, said they have demolished many buildings with the previous grant and other funds – but they also motivated owners to fix or sell several of the 30 buildings on the list, and so the list of properties needing attention is constantly changing.

Feeney says you can reach the land bank through the Chillicothe mayor’s office or the Ross County Commissioners office.

The Ross County Land Bank was happy that they demolished a long-abandoned house at 73 West 7th Street, across an alley from the Southern Playground - here in 2019.
