Sewer Work at at Water and Watt in Chillicothe Extended More

The closure of the intersection at East Water and North Watt streets in Chillicothe is being further extended.

A sinkhole developed at the Watt and Water intersection late last week because of a sewer collapse, and then rains from earlier this week caused further collapse. The Chillicothe Utilities Department says the work could take anywhere from one to three months to complete.

The repair is more extensive than can be handled by city-owned equipment, so it has had to rent larger equipment. According to Chillicothe Utilities Director Brad Long, early estimates for the repair are between $150,000 and $200,000.

Water Street west to Brownell Street is also closed, and that includes the south sidewalk from Brownell to East Fairview.
