Chillicothe Council Finally Returns Second Street to Two-Way

Chillicothe Council met virtually in regular session Monday night, and finally committed to a downtown change.

Mayor Luke Feeney pointed out that the discussion to return Second Street to two-way operation has continued over several years, and has been an example of government at work.

He said most of the concerns about it were over the expense, which has been reduced in part by incorporating some of the changes into scheduled repaving. Council passed it on third reading.

Mayor Feeney also mentioned new police chief Ron Meyers was sworn in last Monday, and new transit director Asti Powell (former health department Community Health Specialist) will start next Monday.

Feeney also said trick-or-treat - so far - is still on for 6 to 7:30pm October 29th...and that leaf pickup has started. (Please do not rake leaves into the street or gutters.)

Before the council session, the desperate condition of the wastewater treatment plant was discussed in committee, and a special council session may be called next Monday to appropriate $750,000 for emergency repairs and replacements.

Council also approved creating "Hinton Way," and allowing the Mighty Children's Museum to build their skating rink on the city marking lot at Paint and 4th streets again in November. The rink may get a vote for an extended lease in January.
