Pike County School To Be Closed All Next Year Over Radiation Concerns

Officials in Pike County say Zahn's Corner Middle School will remain closed all of next year because of enriched uranium discovered inside the building.

Scioto Valley Local School District Board President Brandon Wooldridge confirmed the decision yesterday, saying the closure was for the safety of the children and faculty.

With the closure, students who would have attended fourth and fifth grade at the school will now go to Jasper Elementary and sixth graders will be transferred to Piketon High School.

Zahn's Corner is located about six miles from the former Piketon Uranium Enrichment plant which has been undergoing cleanup and decontamination.
