Cavs Win Regular Season Closer

The Chillicothe Cavaliers Finished With Win at Meigs County Tuesday by a score of 77-52, with the highlight by Branden Maughmer scoring his 1000th career point.

Coach Eric Huffer wanted his Cavs to finish their regular season on a high note and his club did not disappoint with their 16th win of the year in convincing fashion over Meigs County.

Chillicothe had too much athleticism and size for the smaller Marauders. The Cavs forced early turnovers, hit threes, and turned transition into easy buckets.

The Cavaliers led 28-15 after one stanza and 46-25 at intermission.

Senior Branden Maughmer had 20 at the half and finished with a game high 28, including a six foot bank shot early in the third for his 1,000th career point. The milestone basket was typical of the Cavs as Jason Benson picked off a pass and unselfishly dished the pass to Maughmer for his big basket.

Chillicothe put seven players in the scoring column, four in double figures and had 14 players get on the court in the game. Sophomore Jayvon Maughmer didn’t miss a shot with 14 points, Simon Roderick hit for 13, and junior Chris Postage came off the bench to score 10.

The Cavaliers finish the regular season at 16-6 with an undefeated FAC record of 10-0.

Chillicothe has a long layoff, as they don’t play their first Central District tourney game until March 2. The FAC Champs host the winner of Hilliard Darby and Olentangy at Hattie Gymnasium in tournament action.
