The Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center has been recognized for its contribution to positive energy changes as part of the Federal Energy Management Program.

The VA’s first biomass boiler plant and contributors to its development received The Federal Energy and Water Management Award in the Small Team Project category.

The boiler plant, which uses wood chips to make steam, was implemented in May 2012, and, during the first few months, it saved 10 million BTUs of natural gas and more than $170,000 when compared to the previous antiquated boiler plant.

Team members who were recognized in the award are: Dale Allard, Steven Benson, John Elliott, Ryan Jeter, and Ron Stertzbach.
