(AP) - Snow blanketed much of southern Ohio Monday, with the region under a winter storm warning and up to 8 inches of snow expected in southern areas around Portsmouth and points east.

A broad swath of the state south of I-70 could see 3 to 5 inches. A number of school systems have already called off classes for today.

Vinton County is on a Level 3 Snow Emergency and the county offices are closed.
