Ohio is coming off its safest year on record for least traffic fatalities, but RossCounty has started 2014 with 43% more crashes than this time last year, according to the Highway Patrol.

Of the local crashes, however, none have been fatal.

Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Phil Rutherford said bad winter road conditions require everyone to plan ahead by allowing for a longer drive time: "We want you to slow down, we want you to wear your seat belt, and we want you to pay attention to the road."

While he knows road conditions have been bad, Trooper Rutherford said it is still the motorists' responsibility to drive according to the current road conditions.
