Chillicothe's Info To Go

Recreational Water Illness

Posted June 25th, 2014 @ 6:14am

Officials with the Ross County Health District are reminding swimmers to avoid swallowing pool water. Rami Yoakum, with the Health District says it is a misconception that chlorine kills all germs.

To reduce the risk of RWIs, he also recommends showering prior to jumping into the pool.

A study cited by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that people have on average 0.14 grams of feces on their bottoms. These germs can contaminate water and cause illness if consumed.
