Sheriff Lavender reports that his office was dispatched to a radio transmission tower located near the intersection of old U.S. Route 35 and Higby Road at approximately 12:30pm on Tuesday. Unknown suspects forced entry by cutting a padlock on a gate and then broke into a shed that houses radio transmission equipment.
Numerous items were taken to include stainless steel brackets, bolts, nuts, clamps, 4 Interstate Batteries, and copper wire. The suspects climbed approximately 40 feet up the tower and cut 1/2" coaxial cable that is used for radio transmission signals.
The tower housed equipment that is part of the Ross County Sheriff’s Office Radio Communication System, and for Fire and E.M.S. Services for that area of the county.
This incident has put the transmission tower out of service until it can be repaired. Sheriff Lavender is asking anyone with information to contact his office at: 740-773-1185 or Crime Stoppers at 740-773-TIPS.
Sheriff Lavender also asks resident who see any suspicious activity around cell phone or radio towers throughout Ross County to report it.
