Justice Sharon Kennedy spoke to the weekly Republican luncheon in Chillicothe.

She mentioned her efforts while filling out the last two years of the term she was elected to in 2012...and that she is planning for a 2014 re-election.

Although in the highest court in the state, she said her focus is broader now, looking at all kinds of cases.

Kennedy said her last name has confused voters, saying she called herself "the conservative with a liberal-sounding name."

She mentioned what the Cincinnati Enquirer had printed when she was elected - that it had been more than 40 years since a justice came from south of I-70, and more than 150 years for a justice from Butler County.

Kennedy said that having been a police officer in Hamilton was something new for the top court, with her 27 years of experience "from the ground up."

She teared up while reminiscing about being a working-class girl who was eventually voted to such a high office, "the greatest gift the people of Ohio could bestow on anyone."

In the fall of 2014 she plans to be on the ballot again.
