The rash of church break-ins and thefts continue to soar in Chillicothe and Ross County.

Police Officer Bud Lytle says as of Tuesday morning, nine churches had been hit by thieves over a six day period and a few churches in the county are also reporting thefts. At least two churches in the city have been victimized twice, leading one church to offer a $1,000 reward on top of that which Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering for information leading to arrests and a conviction.

None of the churches are being named at this point.

Lytle has tips for churches to protect from these thefts, including making sure that all cash offerings need to be secured, hopefully by making a night deposit.

The Chillicothe Police are open to discussing safety tips with area churches and organizations how many of these tips against being made victims of crime. Call 773-1191 and ask for Officer Bud Lytle.
