Adoption Record Changes

Adoption Record Changes
Posted December 13th, 2013 @ 12:09pm

Thousands of Ohioans adopted between 1964 and 1996 will soon have access to their birth records.

Changes to state law in 1964 kept children that were adopted from getting access to their birth certificates. That law was changed in 1996, but it wasn't made retro-active.

Ohio lawmakers changed that, sending the corrective bill to the governor.

State Rep. Dorothy Pelanda, who has more than 30 years of experience in adoption law, says parents could opt to have their names or only medical history shared with children they gave up for adoption.
